Energy Storage Battery Safe Use Precautions
I. Battery Use
- Batteries are delivered fully charged. However, their capacity may gradually decrease during storage before installation.
If the storage period is extended, the battery should be recharged. For storage periods of less than 6 months, recharge using a constant voltage with limited current at
2.27V per cell, with a maximum current below 0.25C, for 48-72 hours. - Batteries can be used in both standby and cyclic applications. Charging should be performed using a constant voltage
with limited current, with a maximum current of 0.1C₁₀ to 0.25C₁₀.- Standby use (25°C):
- 2V cells: 2.25V/cell
- 6V / 12V batteries: 2.27V/cell
- Cycle use (25°C):
- 2V cells: 2.35V/cell
- 6V / 12V batteries: 2.40V/cell
- Standby use (25°C):
- Ambient temperature has a significant impact on charging performance, battery capacity, and service life.
If the temperature falls outside the range of 20°C-30°C, the charging voltage should be adjusted accordingly:- Decrease the charging voltage at higher temperatures
- Increase the charging voltage at lower temperatures
Correction factor: 4mV/°C per cell
- The battery should be recharged after installation or after discharge using a constant voltage with limited current:
- Charging voltage (25°C): 2.35V/cell
- Maximum current: 0.1C₁₀ to 0.25C₁₀
If the battery is fully discharged (100% depth), the typical charging time is 24-27 hours.
The battery is considered fully charged when:
- The charging current drops to a very low level and remains stable for approximately 3 hours, or
- The charged capacity reaches about 115% of the discharged capacity
- Equalization Charging:
If the float voltage of any battery in the pack drops below 2.2V per cell,
the entire battery pack should undergo equalization charging.- Charging voltage (25°C): 2.35V/cell
- Maximum current: 0.1C₁₀ to 0.15C₁₀
- Duration: 8-12 hours
II. Requirements of Installation and Use
- Batteries are generally used in series connections. If parallel connection is required, it should not exceed two parallel branches.
- Batteries can operate within an ambient temperature range of -25°C to 45°C. The recommended operating temperature is 15°C to 30°C. Ensure the battery room is properly ventilated.
- Keep batteries away from heat sources and sparks, maintaining a safety distance of at least 1 meter. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, radiation, organic solvent vapors, and corrosive gases. To improve shock resistance, the battery rack should be securely fixed with foundation bolts.
- Batteries are delivered fully charged. During transportation and installation, prevent short circuits. Pay special attention to avoiding contact between battery terminals and metal parts such as racks or enclosures.
- When installing battery cables, use insulated tools and wear insulating gloves. Remove any personal metal items such as watches, bracelets, or rings.
- Ensure all connections are securely tightened. The recommended torque is 5-7 N·m. Loose connections may cause overheating or even fire hazards.
- Do not mix batteries of different models or capacities.
During installation, carefully check that the polarity is correct:
- Connect the positive terminal of the battery to the positive terminal of the charger
- Connect the negative terminal of the battery to the negative terminal of the charger
III. Requirements of Battery Working Maintenance
- During battery operation, the operator should maintain complete records, including battery voltage, current, ambient temperature, operating time, and other relevant data.
- Regularly inspect the condition of all connecting terminals. Ensure they are securely fastened to prevent overheating or fire hazards caused by loose connections or contamination on the connectors.
- Check the total float charging voltage. Use a voltmeter to measure the voltage at the battery's positive and negative terminals, ensuring it matches the indicated float charging voltage and complies with the standard values for the current temperature.
- During operation, if any abnormalities occur, such as unusual voltage, physical damage (e.g. cracks or deformation of the container or cover), electrolyte leakage, or abnormal temperature, the operator should identify and resolve the issue immediately.
- Keep the battery surface clean by using clean water only. Do not use organic solvents. Ensure the battery is operated in a dry, clean, and well-ventilated environment.
Notes for Energy Storage Battery Use
- Do not disassemble or modify the battery.
- Do not dispose of the battery in water or fire.
- Always wear insulating gloves when connecting battery packs.
- Do not install, use, or store batteries in areas accessible to children.
- Do not use batteries of different brands, capacities, voltages, or mixed old and new batteries in series connections.
- Batteries contain acid. If the battery is damaged and acid comes into contact with skin, clothing, or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention if necessary.
